In World War II, my grandfather, George Fosdick, flew a P-47 over France. Like many pilots, he named his airplane after something, or someone, he was fond of. Being rather fond of my grandmother, he wisely decided against the pinup girls that were typical of the time. Instead, he chose a character from his favorite comic strip: Li'l Abner's Fearless Fosdick.
Ever since, my family has used the moniker "fearless" in everything we do; as both a reminder of my grandfather, and as a reminder of how to fly.
